Vehicle Safety Requirements

 General

All cars, no matter what which event they are intended for, must undergo a technical inspection. If you arrive at the track with a car which we feel is inherently unsafe, you will not be allowed to participate until the deficiency has been corrected.

The list below is a summary of our requirements. Detailed descriptions are provided in the AROSC Competition Code.

 HPDE

Driver Restraint: Factory seat belts (3-point minimum), in good condition are required. 5-Point or 6-point harnesses are highly recommended.
Roll Bars: Open cars (convertibles) must be equipped with rollover protection. Factory rollover protection is acceptable, however, if it is built into the top, the top must be in place while on track. After market rollbars must be functional and must have a cross brace.

 Time Trials

Driver Restraint: An SFI 16.1 or, FIA 8853/98 or 8854/98 (with homologation numbers C-xxx.T98 or D-xxx.T98) rated driver restraint system is required. These are all 5- or 6-point harness systems. They must be mounted according to the manufacturer's specifications. The restraint system must be current and in good condition.
Roll Bars: Open cars (convertibles) must be equipped with rollover protection. Factory targa-top rollover protection is acceptable if it provides 2 inches of clearance between the roofline and the drivers helmet when the driver is seated in a normal driving position.
Fire Extinguisher: A 2.5 lb BC automotive fire extinguisher mounted within reach of the driver is required.
Misc: A scatter is required when running a non-stock flywheel. Windshields must be either safety glass or Lexan® (polycarbonate). Wire wheels are not normally allowed (contact the Director of Tech and Safety if you have a question).

 Racing

Driver Restraint: An SFI 16.1 or, FIA 8853/98 or 8854/98 (with homologation numbers C-xxx.T98 or D-xxx.T98) rated driver restraint system is required. These are all 5- or 6-point harness systems. They must be mounted according to the manufacturer's specifications. The restraint system must be current and in good condition.
Roll Bars: Cross brased 4-point roll bars are required in all cars. Minimum specfication details can be found in the AROSC Competition Code.
Fire Extinguisher: A 2.5 lb BC automotive fire extinguisher mounted within reach of the driver is required.
Window Net/Arm Restraints: Closed cars must be equipped with a window net; arm restraints may be used as a substitute. Arm restraints are required in open cars.
Misc: A scatter is required when running a non-stock flywheel. Windshields must be either safety glass or Lexan® (polycarbonate). Wire wheels are not allowed. Catch tanks must be installed on open radiator and oil breather systems.
Recommendations: External electrical cutoff switchs, fuel cells, proper racing seat, full roll cages, helmet support and a fire system are all recommended. It is also recommended that drain pulgs and oil filters be safety wired.
